What is Hypnotherapy?
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy/hypnosis is a focused state of concentration (it can be sitting comfortably and relaxed or standing up eyes wide open). Hypnosis is sometimes known as trance. (Almost all of my sessions are done sitting down though!)
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that we drift in and out of in our everyday lives. If you’ve ever travelled along a familiar route and arrived at your destination without remembering parts of your journey that’s a state of hypnosis/a trance like feeling.
Perhaps you’ve been absorbed in a good book or film and lost all track of time; that’s a trance.
Also, when you watch a film and you know the actor as Daniel Craig, he is not Daniel throughout the film, but James Bond, for example. You suspend your state of belief into watching the character, not the actor. You are experiencing a hypnotic trance right there.
During the session
During hypnosis the body and the conscious mind can be in a profoundly relaxed state, while the subconscious remains very alert and receptive to positive suggestions. This is the optimal state to be in, in order for positive changes to be made.
Hypnosis bypasses the critical analyses of your conscious mind so that positive and life-enhancing suggestions can be incorporated into your new behaviour overcoming problems and limitations our minds.
We can change the patterns and programs that have been used in your life which are no longer wanted, nor needed. Changing these thought/behavioural patterns allows us to improve the way you work, so that you can feel better.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
We work on two levels; the conscious and the subconscious. We make decisions, think and act with the conscious mind while the subconscious mind controls our habits and holds the key to our behaviours, emotions and memories. It holds the programs of behaviour that run on a daily basis, good or bad.
Under hypnosis I can help you by distracting the critical, conscious mind and so I can communicate directly with your subconscious mind.
I can then help you adjust/upgrade/remove the embedded programs, in order to create lasting, positive change.
When in this state of mind there is a change in the brain wave activity similar to that time just before sleep, when the alpha state is entered.
(Your brain’s waking state is a beta brain wave, the alpha state is a very dreamy pleasant state.)
It is not an unusual state of mind and may feel like you are not in a trance or in hypnosis. That’s because you are neither asleep nor fully awake, just in that lovely in-between state, where you use your amazing creative imagination to guide through the session and enjoy a rich sensory experience of sights, sounds and even smells and tastes.
After the session
99% of my clients come out of hypnosis and say they wish they could stay there, as it feels so lovely! The magic begins to work fairly quickly after a session with me!
